The department of Social Work completed its projects Laylac Youth Actions Center for Community Development through the social work project at Al-Quds Open University, where a number of social work students were divided into three groups of 5-6 students to work on three separate projects thoroughly chosen by them in order to benefit as many people as possible.
The first group was “Hope and Giving”, which was conducted at Al Awada kindergarten in Alazza refugee camp. The project aimed to restructure the interior of the kindergarten and renovate the space in order to hold non curricular activities for the children, which reassures Layla’c vision upon targeting the disadvantaged slices of the Palestinian community.
The third group of students ” With you we develop and continue” decided to built a cultural cafe within the center through which more activities can be held at the same time and in order to encourage children to use the roof space for outdoors activities. This project was conducted after a series of interviews with the targeted population and with significant research. The roof is now a well decorated and organized cultural cafe that is more useful and productive.
As for the fourth group of students ” We can create anything with knowledge”, worked on turning one of the large rooms in the center of Laylac into a library. The students conducted research with targeted population and reached a conclusion that a library can be very beneficial to the community and youth of the center and worked on renovating the spacing and decorating to attract more volunteers and participants.
The students showed their appreciation to Laylac and its staff and volunteers as well as to the outside community of supporters that helped them achieve their goals and facilitated their projects from university academics to staff and companies that helped with the least they can help with to make this possible.
