A recent and very active volunteer at Laylac just died due to complications of injury caused by 7 bullets that entered his body 25 days back. Since that day, Raed has been silently in pain at the hospital, cuffed against the bed in the ICU between life and death.
The savage Israeli soldiers attacked Dheisheh refugee camp at 4 am on the 9th of August 2017, they broke into Raed Salhi’s house. Raed woke up on the sound of the bomb the soldiers planted on his main door.
Raed usually sleeps on the couch just outside his house because there is no space for him inside his small family’s house. He panicked and tried to run away from the monstrous looking night thieves. In cold blood, the soldiers shot him seven bullets in his back and his legs as he they saw him running away. Raed fell down and started bleeding excessively. Meanwhile a soldier was injured from the fire shot at Raed by the other soldiers. The Israeli ambulance comes to treat the injured soldier, leaving Raed bleeding on the ground for two hours. Once finished, the soldiers dragged Raed’s bleeding body outside and left him lying while they wrap up and go.
The soldiers loaded Raed in the military vehicle and dropped him at an Israeli hospital. The lawyer was the only one allowed to see Raed, he was able to get info about Raed on the 3rd day after speaking with his doctor. The news was that “Raed is in a coma, two of the 7 bullets hit both his kidneys and liver. He was only relying on medical devices to live for now”.
It has been 25 days and Raed was still in a coma. Despite his health condition; the Israeli court has “extended” his investigation and still holds him as a prisoner.
According to the Israeli military, Raed has participated in throwing stones on the military vehicles that attacked his camp, along with his 5 other friends that were arrested just before him.
“The alleyways of the camp are not as tight as you think, they fit about a thousand fighters or more”, Raed.
